Working with Dogs in Rescue

To date, this project has enabled us to work alongside two rescue organisations, Jerry Green Dog Rescue and The Mayflower Sanctuary, using dogs under their care as participants for our studies.

At an immediate level, all animals involved in the studies receive treatments that are designed to improve their welfare, such as feeding enrichment and training tasks. The outcomes of our work will be implemented immediately upon completion in order to improve the welfare of all dogs under the rescues’ care. For more information on the work that the rescues do, see below.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue

The first Jerry Green Dog Rescue Centre was founded in 1961 at Broughton, North Lincolnshire. They are now the second largest dog-only charity in the UK, with 5 centres covering the counties of Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. For more information on Jerry Green, click here.

The Mayflower Sanctuary

In 2003 The Mayflower Sanctuary opened in Bawtry, near Doncaster. Several years later the sanctuary is going from strength to strength, rescuing and rehoming over 400 dogs and 90 cats each year. For more information on Mayflower Sanctuary, click here.
